Dominick Reyes Claims UFC is ‘On Board’ for Jon Jones Rematch

There appears to be a lone holdout in a much-anticipated Ultimate Fighting Championship title rematch.

A few months ago, Dominick Reyes had the chance of his life when he challenged the current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. After some back-and-forth action, the main event of UFC 247 ended with “Bones” taking home the title thanks to a unanimous decision victory. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Reyes said that the UFC is down to book a rematch with Jones later this year, but his opponent is trying to avoid meeting him again.

“I know the UFC is on board,” Reyes explained. “I know I’m on board. The issue is Jon right now. He’s going to say he’s down online, obviously on Twitter. When he gets those contracts in front of him, he’s a little different. That’s where we’re at.”

Reyes claimed that his last match was a “dog fight” and that’s why "Bones" is reluctant to face him again. In the meanwhile, Jones (26-1) had some trouble with the law recently after an Albuquerque PD officer arrested him on March 26. For the moment, the UFC has yet to take any action towards the champion, but this might change as the investigations proceed.

“We’ve got to wait for all of this COVID-19 stuff and everything, so they can make decisions,” Reyes added. “They have to figure out what they’re going to do with him. Hopefully, they don’t punish him so I can get that rematch pretty quickly, right on my timeline. If not, I’m the No. 1 guy, so we’ll figure it out.”

“The Devastator” earned his first-ever title shot after an impressive 12-fight winning streak. Prior to the title clash with Jones, Reyes demolished former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman in under 2 minutes at UFC on ESPN 6.
