Donald Trump Adds Dana White to United States Economic Advisory Group

UFC president Dana White will be part of a group of industry leaders and executives that will help the United States restart an economy that has been damaged by the coronavirus pandemic.

President Donald Trump revealed the group during his daily coronavirus press conference on Tuesday. Numerous prominent figures in professional sports will join White on the task force, including commissioners from the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB.

The panel, which the White House calls the Great American Economic Revival Industry Groups, will include more than 50 leaders from industries such as agriculture, defense, technology, manufacturing and financial services.

Trump specifically addressed professional sports during the presser, and referred to White as “great” Dana White when announcing his addition to the panel.

“We have to get our sports back,” Trump said. “I’m tired of watching baseball games that are 14 years old. But I haven’t actually had too much time to watch. I would say maybe I watch one batter, and then I get back to work.”

White on Tuesday revealed that he is targeting May 9 for the UFC’s next event. Thus far, the promotion has postponed cards on March 21, March 28, April 11 and April 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. White attempted to hold UFC 249 on tribal land in Lemoore, California but was asked to “stand down” by Disney and ESPN executives following protests from government officials.

By the end of Tuesday, the United States reported more than 600,000 cases and 26,000 deaths due to the coronavirus outbreak. Currently, all professional sports organizations in the country have suspended activity in the wake of the pandemic.
