Ex-Bantamweight Champ Cody Garbrandt Criticizes Henry Cejudo for Facing Dominick Cruz
Cody Garbrandt wasn’t thrilled to find out that Henry Cejudo will be making his next title defense against an opponent “No Love” defeated more than three years ago.

In recent days, Garbrandt has been vocal on Twitter about Cejudo’s penchant for facing opponents who are coming off one or more defeats.
“Triple C stands for Triple Coward. You chose a guy who hasn’t
fought in over [four] years,” Garbrandt wrote. “Come on UFC!”

Though Garbrandt’s numbers are a little off, his point remains. Cruz hasn’t competed since Garbrandt ended his 11-bout winning streak and 135-pound championship reign at UFC 207 on Dec. 30, 2016. All told, the oft-injured Cruz has fought just four times since 2011.
That didn’t prevent Cejudo from firing back at Garbrandt, however. The Olympic gold medalist took aim at Garbrandt’s current three-bout skid, in which he suffered KO/TKO defeats at the hands of T.J. Dillashaw (twice) and Pedro Munhoz.
“You just keep up that great losing streak and I might just pick you, Cody Garbage,” Cejudo replied.

Since vanquishing Marlon Moraes to claim bantamweight gold in June 2019, Cejudo has targeted what he feels are promotional legends, regardless of their recent track record. That includes not only Aldo and Cruz, but also Urijah Faber and Frankie Edgar.
The location for Cejudo’s May 9 bout vs. Cruz has not yet been announced. Garbrandt, meanwhile, was forced to pull out of a proposed showdown with Raphael Assuncao at UFC on ESPN 8 due to kidney issues. The March 28 event was ultimately canceled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In his tweet, Garbrandt vows to fight Assuncao “before the summer is up.”
