“Hello. Uh, crutches. That’s never a good thing, and it’s not,” Herrig said. “Unfortunately Friday I tore my ACL, and I do need surgery, which means that I will not be fighting on [UFC 238], which is a bummer for sure. I just want to say I’m sorry to the fans, to the UFC and most definitely my opponent. I hope that she gets a replacement. There’s still enough time. As for me, what can you do? All I can do is move forward and stay positive and work on my recovery and come back stronger than ever.”
A four-bout winning streak from 2016 to 2017 moved Herrig up the list of 115-pound contenders, but 2018 was more difficult, as “Lil Bulldog” dropped back-to-back fights to Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Michelle Waterson. The 34-year-old Team Curran representative is 5-3 in the UFC and 14-8 as a professional overall.
Yan, meanwhile, has kicked off her promotional tenure with successive triumphs over Kailin Curran, Viviane Pereira and Syuri Kondo to run her professional mark to 10-1.
UFC 238 takes place on June 8 at the United Center in Chicago and is headlined by a bantamweight title tilt between Henry Cejudo and Marlon Moraes.
