Strikeforce 135-pound women’s champion Sarah Kaufman and challenger Roxanne Modafferi took to the scales on Thursday at the Ice Box in Everett, Wash., to make official the title bout for Friday’s Showtime-televised (11 p.m. ET) Strikeforce Challengers 9 card.

Kaufman (11-0), who claimed the title in February with a hard-fought win against Takayo Hashi, exited the scale at 134 pounds even. Modafferi registered a slightly lower total of 133.4.

“I’m looking to knock her out,” said the native of Victoria, B.C., Canada, of her foil. You always want to finish it.”

The 25-year-old champion expects a battle in her first attempt to defend the belt.

“I’m expecting Roxy to bring a fight. I don’t think she’s going to back down, but I do think she’ll try to take it to the ground.”

Modafferi (15-5), a New Englander living and fighting out of Tokyo, embraced the opportunity to vie for the promotional crown.

“Sarah is a powerful fighter. I’m looking forward to the challenge of facing her.”

The card’s official main event pits heavyweight prospect Shane del Rosario (9-0) against the hard-hitting Lolohea Mahe (4-1-1). Mahe held more than a 20-pound weight advantage on Friday, coming in just under the limit at 264. Del Rosario hit 243.6 for the showdown.
