Two flyweights who suffered losses in their last outings will meet at UFC Fight Night “McGregor vs. Siver” on Jan. 18.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Wednesday announced that Patrick Holohan will fight Shane Howell at TD Garden in Boston. The bout will support a card that features a main event of Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver, as well as a co-main event pitting Benson Henderson against Eddie Alvarez.
Holohan was last inside the Octagon at UFC Fight Night “MacDonald vs. Saffiedine,” where he dropped a unanimous decision to Chris Kelades. “The Hooligan” was originally scheduled to fight Louis Gaudinot, but an injury forced the hand of UFC, who asked Kelades to fill in on short notice. After a strong opening round, Holohan dropped the next two against the hometown product and sustained his first loss as a professional. Holohan joins his SBG Ireland teammate McGregor on the card.
A winner in nine of his last 10 fights before joining the UFC ranks, Howell dropped his promotional debut against Ray Borg at UFC Fight Night “Swanson vs. Stephens” via technical submission. The fight was the 30-year-old’s first since March of 2012. Howell has also fought once previously for Bellator MMA and has finished 11 of his 13 wins.
