UFC, Bellator and Strikeforce veteran Lavar Johnson is in jail for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend on Aug. 11.

TMZ first brought word of Johnson’s arrest. Johnson was taken into custody on Aug. 25 with bail set at $175,000, according to Fresno County Sheriff’s Office records. He pled not guilty to several charges including corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, dissuading a witness from reporting a crime and dissuading a witness by force.

According to TMZ, the 6-foor-4, 260-pound heavyweight reportedly slammed his girlfriend’s head against the wall and ground, kneed her in the face and head repeatedly and hit her more than 11 times in the face with a closed fist. Police found the woman bleeding with swelling on her forehead and nose; she would later require stitches to close one of the wounds.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 20.

Johnson, 38, made his Strikeforce debut in 2009 and eventually had stints in both the UFC and Bellator. He last appeared at Bellator 123 in September 2014, losing to Cheick Kongo via first-round rear-naked choke. The heavyweight was rumored to appear opposite Eric Prindle on a regional card in California on June 26, but that bout never came to fruition.
