Frankie Edgar Respectfully Calls Out Max Holloway

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion and current featherweight top contender, Frankie "The Answer" Edgar has gone 1-1 in his last two outings. Losing to Brian Ortega in March 2018 was a harsh setback, especially since his original opponent was champion Max Holloway. Not only did Edgar lose a title opportunity, but he also put himself on the receiving end of a devastating Ortega uppercut.

But Edgar bounced back and went on to defeat Cub Swanson via unanimous decision. Such action has allowed Edgar to hold court in the number three spot of the UFC's rankings, a position that holds significant meaning when considering that both the number one and two spot holders have already lost to Holloway.

The landscape at 145 became frozen in time while Holloway moved up 10 pounds to battle Dustin Poirier in April for the interim lightweight championship. Losing to Poirier has, at least temporarily, sent Holloway back to featherweight to resume defending his strap.

As such, Edgar has taken it upon himself to redirect the conversation back to UFC gold. Yesterday, Edgar went on Instagram to issue Holloway a gentlemanly request to challenge for the "Blessed" one's belt.

"Hey [Holloway], not once, but twice we got all dressed up, took pictures, and never got to dance. Everybody knows I put my last opportunity on the line because that's the kind of people we are. Let's finally get this done! [For your information], your last fight was epic, let's put another one in the history books! May I have this dance?"

Edgar has indeed lost out on two opportunities to face Holloway for the 145-pound championship. Edgar was forced to withdraw from their scheduled bout at UFC 218, and Holloway followed suit when they were set to fight at UFC 222.
