Mike Whitman Sep 29, 2010
Both fighters featured in the main event of
Bellator 31 hit the scales on point for their fight at the
L’Auberge du Lac Casino and Resort in Lake Charles, La., on
Thursday.
Megumi Fujii (114.8), the Japanese submission specialist trained by Josh Barnett, will take on Deep veteran Lisa Ward (115.2) in the second round of Bellator’s 115-pound women’s tournament. The fight will be a rematch of the pair’s tussle in the now-defunct BodogFight organization in 2007. Fujii won the first fight by first-round armbar.
The other semi-final in the women’s tournament will pit
world-ranked Zoila “Warrior
Princess” Frausto (116.2) against American Top Team fighter
Jessica
Aguilar (115.2) Frausto is coming off a unanimous decision
victory over Jessica
Pene in the first round of the tournament, while Aguilar
defeated Lynn
Alvarez by first-round triangle choke in her first-round
match-up. The “Warrior Princess” initially weighed in heavy, and
needed additional time to make the weight.
Rounding out the main card will be a welterweight contest between undefeated up-and-comer Chris Lozano (170.4) and UFC veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida (170.6). Yoshida has lost three of his last four fights, most memorably suffering a brutal knockout loss to Josh Koscheck in December 2008.
All fighters on the undercard made their respective weights.
