Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin - Daniel Jacobs Not Happening… Yet

Mike SloanOct 20, 2016

With the coveted mega fight between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on the ropes most likely until late 2017, the next great thing at middleweight is for “GGG” to take on fellow titlist Daniel Jacobs. It seems as though the fight will occur, but it won’t be this year.

With Team Golovkin hoping to secure some sort of action before 2016 closes out, there was hopes that the popular knockout machine would take on somebody with a pulse since the talks with Alvarez’s team temporarily fell through. But when reports circulated that Golovkin, who is regarded as the true champion at 160 pounds, was going to fight Jacobs, a WBA titleholder, the boxing world figuratively exploded in joy.

However, just like what happened with the negotiations with “Canelo,” the proposed Dec. 10 showdown at Madison Square Garden in New York has been postponed. The breakdown of the agreement has come down to -- surprise -- money and even if the two camps agree to lock horns, it won’t be until sometime in early 2017.

Much more on this as it unfolds…
