Via their official press release on Friday, DAZN announced that Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) has signed an exclusive deal with the streaming service. In June, he will compete under the DAZN banner for the first time, with the location and opponent to be announced, appearing twice a year with DAZN for the next three years. According to Mike Coppinger of Fox Sports, Golovkin stands to make at least $10 million each fight in this deal with DAZN. No longer on pay-per-view, all of his fights with DAZN will be available to subscribers. Additionally, the press release stated that GGG Promotions will host two cards each year on DAZN starting in 2020.
DAZN Group Executive Chairman John Skipper announced the signing, stating, "Gennady Golovkin is a generational talent with international appeal. We're confident he will bring his passionate fans to the platform as we produce tentpole events with his team over the next several years."
Thrilled to spread the news of his signing, "GGG" explained, "DAZN has quickly become the new home of boxing by making the biggest events easily available to the fans." Continuing, he said, "When deciding on where I wanted to continue my career, DAZN's global vision perfectly matched my goals – not just for my career but the opportunity to showcase talented Eastern European fighters to the world. Thank you to my fans for all of the loyal support and I look forward to you joining me on DAZN."
Golovkin most recently competed against Saul Alvarez last September, dropping a controversial majority decision to lose his world titles. Dan Rafael of ESPN wrote that as a fellow DAZN-signed boxer, Alvarez and Golovkin could be destined for a trilogy match if both men win their next bouts. Last year, Alvarez signed a massive $365 million deal spanning five years and 10 more fights. The only two blemishes on the soon-to-be 37-year-old Kazakh's otherwise sparkling record are to Alvarez, with the two fighting to a split draw in 2017, and in the rematch Alvarez edged him by decision in 2018.
