Gilbert Burns Releases Statement After UFC Vegas 106 Defeat



Gilbert Burns is remaining positive on the heels of his fourth consecutive loss under the Ultimate Fighting Championship banner.

Burns suffered a first-round technical knockout loss to Michael Morales in the UFC Vegas 106 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. “Durinho” never really got going, as he was overwhelmed by the punching power of his younger opponent. While the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt was was able to get Morales to the canvas, he was unable to keep him their to implement his trademark grappling.

The 38-year-old Kill Cliff FC representative reacted to the defeat in a statement on his Instagram page.

“Thankful for this journey! I’m still super blessed! Off course wasn’t the outcome I was looking forward to l, especially for this one I work extremely hard, who saw, saw, but it’s the fight game and it’s life!” Burns wrote. “Congrats to [Michael Morales] wishing you and your team all the success! That’s is it no sad stories! Grateful for this beautiful journey and for all the lessons! God is good all the time! All honors, praise and glory are given to him in a win or defeat!”

Burns won six consecutive fights from 2018 to 2020, earning a title shot against then champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 258, where he suffered a third-round technical knockout loss. He’s gone 3-5 since then and has dropped successive fights against Belal Muhammad, Jack Della Maddalena, Sean Brady and Michael Morales.
