Grabowski’s Bellator Debut Booked for Aug. 19

Undefeated Pole Damian Grabowski will meet Scott Barrett in the first round of the 2010 Bellator Fighting Championships heavyweight tournament at Bellator 25 on Aug. 19 at the Chicago Theatre in Chicago. The promotion on Thursday announced the matchup.

Grabowski has finished all 12 of his opponents, nine of them inside one round. The 30-year-old Opole, Poland, native last competed in June, when he stopped Michal Kita in the first round under the Beast of the East banner. He also holds a pair of victories against Golden Glory’s Dion Staring. Grabowski has some tournament experience on his resume, as he delivered four wins in a single night to win an Ultimate Cage Fighters Championship competition last year in Austria.

The little-known Barrett will carry a four-fight winning streak into the match. The Georgia-based heavyweight wrestled collegiately at Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., and has parlayed those skills into 10 wins in his first 11 professional MMA appearances. Barrett -- who suffered his only career defeat to recent UFC signee Chad Corvin -- has not competed since he stopped Ty Lee on first-round punches at Bellator 19 two months ago. Only one of his 11 fights has reached the judges.

Meanwhile, Bellator 25 will feature a pair of quarterfinal matchups in the 2010 Bellator Fighting Championships women’s 115-pound tournament, as Aisling Daly meets Lisa Ward and Zoila Frausto squares off with Jessica Pene.
