Grant Drops to 155, Meets Roller at UFC Live 6 in D.C.

Grant will move down the scale to meet Oklahoman Shane
Roller at lightweight this October.
UFC officials announced Saturday that Grant (Pictured) and Roller have verbally agreed to square off at UFC Live 6, an event expected to take place Oct. 1 at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
It is currently unknown whether the bout will be part of the show’s
Versus-televised main card, which will be headlined by a UFC
bantamweight title clash between champion Dominick
Cruz and top contender Demetrious
Johnson.
Grant, 27, has alternated wins and losses since his April 2009 UFC debut, a narrow decision win over Japanese veteran Ryo Chonan. The Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, native has subsequently been outpointed by Dong Hyun Kim, Johny Hendricks and, most recently, Ricardo Almeida. Five of Grant’s six Octagon outings have gone the distance; prior to entering the UFC, he had seen the judges’ scorecards only once in 15 bouts.
In June, illness forced Grant from his matchup with Charlie Brenneman at UFC Live 4 on just four days’ notice. His bout with Roller will mark Grant’s debut at 155 pounds.
A three time Division I All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University, 32-year-old Roller posted a 6-2 record in World Extreme Cagefighting before transferring to the UFC in March. After debuting with a stunning knockout of highly regarded Brazilian Thiago Tavares, the Team Takedown product was himself knocked cold by Melvin Guillard at July 2’s UFC 132. Roller has finished nine of his 10 wins by submission or knockout, but has been stopped in all four of his career losses.
