Marcus
Almeida is officially a free agent.
The decorated grappler has parted ways with ONE Championship following a six-bout stint that began in 2021. MMAFighting.com has reported that there is strong interest from the UFC in potentially signing the 35-year-old heavyweight.
“Buchecha” is a fourth-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a multi-time ADCC and IBJJF grappling champion. He last competed at ONE 169 “Bangkok” on Nov. 8, when he submitted Amir Aliakbari with a rear-naked choke in the opening stanza. That was Almeida’s only appearance of 2024.
The American Top Team product has compiled a 5-1 mark under the ONE banner, losing only to Oumar Kane via unanimous decision in August 2023. Almeida has finished all five of his victories inside of a round.
