Two main card bouts have been removed from the Bellator 174 main card.
A catch-weight bout between Kendall Grove and Mike Rhodes and a bantamweight clash between Joe Taimanglo and Steve Garcia were both canceled on Thursday. Rhodes and Taimanglo both missed weight at the early weigh-ins and were not able to come to an agreement on a suitable catch-weight with their opponents. The weights of Rhodes and Taimanglo were not revealed.
The promotion confirmed the cancellations following an initial report from MMAjunkie.com. Both Grove and Garcia will receive their show money despite not competing.
As a result, a heavyweight clash pitting Justin Wren against Roman Pizzolato and a catch-weight matchup between Rafael Lovato Jr. and Charles Hackmann have been elevated to the Spike-televised portion of the card.
Bellator 174 takes place at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Okla., on Friday night and is headlined by a bout between Marloes Coenen and Julia Budd for the promotion’s inaugural women’s featherweight title.
