Head Coach Sayif Saud Explains Continued Success of Fortis MMA

These days, it seems that Fortis MMA is represented on virtually every Ultimate Fighting Championship card. More often than not, the athletes from the Dallas-based camp are successful, as well.

For head coach Sayif Saud, it has been incredible his fighters succeed after all their hard work. Not only are they winning fights, but they are also being noticed by other fighters and the UFC commentators for their efforts.

“It is outstanding. I think the guys and girls performances speak for themselves. The media has been giving us a ton of love and people keep saying we are this or that. It is all good, we just need to continue to win,” Saud said to Sherdog.com. “There are a lot of top gyms and we just keep our heads down and keep on working. I believe in the grind, the process and the system. I believe if you put in the work, the results will come. So that is what we focus on. Just control the controllable and move forward.”

Something Saud can control is the training in his gym. He knows no one will outwork a Fortis MMA fighter, and with the team on a winning streak, no fighter wants to drop the ball. That is exactly what Saud and the coaches want, as they say winning is the only expectation.

“Winning is the expectation at our gym and always has been. That is the only expectation we have. For us, when we can fulfill it, it is awesome and to have good fights it is even better,” he explained. “But, to have the type of fights and performances these guys have been having, well then that is great. Winning is always the expectation though.”

The gym features Geoff Neal, Diego Ferreira, Macy Chiasson, Alonzo Menifield and Ryan Spann ,among others. It also recently welcomed Uriah Hall to the gym for his last camp, and Hall picked up a win over Antonio Carlos Jr. at UFC Fight Night 158 on Sept. 14.

Saud was impressed by Hall’s work ethic and his ability to accept the gym’s process.

“It is all about who is willing to put in the work. Uriah Hall came into the gym and put in the work. I challenged him, and tried to make him uncomfortable and he thrived in that and loved that challenge,” Saud said. “He stepped up and we saw the best version of Uriah Hall. His striking was fantastic and submission defense was great. His cardio and movement was good. At the end of the day, the system and the process is all the same for everyone in the gym. It is the same grind.”

The hope for Saud is that one of the Fortis MMA representatives captures a UFC championship very soon. The gym boasts Legacy Fighting Alliance belts, Contender Series contracts, and an “Ultimate Fighter” winner, among other accomplishments. Yet, the UFC title is one that is missing, and once it is achieved, Saud knows the work won’t stop there.
