Heavyweight Prospect Tyrell Fortune Returns to Face Josue Lugo at Bellator 201

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Tyrell Fortune will square off against Josue Lugo at Bellator 201.

Sherdog.com confirmed the booking with a promotion official on Wednesday following an initial report from MMAFighting.com. Bellator 201 takes place at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif., on June 29 and is headlined by a women’s flyweight title tilt between Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Alejandra Lara. The main card airs on Paramount Network at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. Fortune vs. Lugo is set for the preliminary bill, which streams on Bellator.com and the Bellator Mobile App.

Fortune, 27, is 4-0 under the Bellator banner thus far. The Arizona Combat Sports product last appeared at Bellator 193, where he took a unanimous decision victory over Joe Hernandez on Jan. 26. Fortune was a junior college and Division II national champion in wrestling.

The 36-year-old Lugo is Fortune’s most experienced foe to date with an 8-3 career mark. The Salinas, Calif., native last competed in April 2017, when he earned a first-round stoppage win over Mike Cook at Dragon House 25. Lugo has finished all but one of his victories inside the distance.
