A heavyweight showdown between Stipe Miocic and Gabriel Gonzaga has been added to the developing UFC on Fox 10 fight card.
UFC officials Thursday announced the booking, which takes place at United Center in Chicago and precedes a headlining lightweight showdown between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and ex-Strikeforce ruler Josh Thomson.
Miocic has tasted defeat just once in 11 pro outings, suffering a second-round knockout to towering Dutchman Stefan Struve last year at UFC on Fuel TV 5. Prior to that setback, the Ohioan had won three straight bouts to begin his Octagon career, topping Joey Beltran, Philip De Fries and Shane del Rosario. Most recently, the 31-year-old bested ex-IFL titlist Roy Nelson, earning a unanimous decision over “Big Country” at UFC 161.
Gonzaga has won four of his five fights since returning to the UFC last year. “Napao” kicked off his current Octagon run with back-to-back wins over Ednaldo Oliveira and Ben Rothwell before suffering a 71-second defeat to Travis Browne this past April. The 34-year-old rebounded from the loss with a first-round knockout wins over Dave Herman and Shawn Jordan to close out his 2013 with a record of 3-1.
