Hermes Franca Arrested in Oregon on Sexual Abuse Charges

Franca has been arrested in Oregon on alleged charges of sexual
abuse.
Franca, 36, previously resided in the state and operated Team Hermes Franca Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Clackamas, Ore. The fighter allegedly flew to Oregon on Monday from Florida, where he now resides, and turned himself in to Clackamas County Jail on seven counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and two counts of unlawful sexual penetration in the second degree.
The news was first reported by Examiner.com on Thursday; Sherdog.com confirmed the news with the Clackamas County Jail and a source close to Franca shortly thereafter. According to a Clackamas County Jail official, Franca’s bail has been set at $250,000, and a trial is scheduled for July 12 at 9 a.m. in the Clackamas County Courthouse in Oregon City, Ore.
A nine-year veteran of the sport, Franca’s career highlight came in 2007 when he challenged Sean Sherk for the UFC lightweight title. Franca has won three of his last four bouts and is currently scheduled to face Drew Fickett for the Maximum Fighting Championship lightweight strap on June 10.
