Holloway Open to Fighting Volkanovski in October Pending Conversation with Doctors, Coaches
Max Holloway solidified himself as perhaps the greatest featherweight of all time with his emphatic five-round unanimous decision victory over former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 240 on Saturday, and he’s already plotting his next title defense.
One interested observer in the crowd for the fight was Australian featherweight contender Alexander Volkanovski who had flown out to the event as a backup fighter in case either Holloway or Edgar failed to make weight.

After, “Blessed” dominated Edgar on the weekend, the talk quickly turned to Melbourne in October and the 27-year-old Hawaiian said he was open to fighting “Alexander The Great” in Australia for the title but his own health would need to come first. (transcript via MMA Junkie)
“We’ll see what happens,” Holloway said. “I look fine, I look great, but I’ll wait to talk to my team and my coaches. I fought three title fights in seven months. I want to fight one more time this year, but we’ve got to take all the right tests and see and we’ll go from there.”
With two deaths in the boxing world in the last week, Holloway said getting clearance from the doctors is his No. 1 priority.
“I’ve got this little mini-me (his son) right here. We had some tragedies in combat sports this past week and we want to stay on top of it and go to the doctors. I’m trying to stay around for a long time, not a good time.”
