Former world boxing champion Holly Holm will compete for her first mixed martial arts title on April 4, when she battles Juliana Werner for the inaugural Legacy Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight belt.
Holm, 32, retired from boxing last year to focus on MMA full time, posting four victories in 2013. The Jackson’s MMA rep scored two knockout wins under the LFC banner and notched a unanimous decision victory in her most recent bout, outpointing Angela Hayes on Dec. 6 in Albuquerque.
Also 32, Werner rides a five-fight winning streak into her LFC debut. The Brazilian began her career in 2005 but left the sport for nearly five years after just her sixth fight. Werner reemerged in September 2011 with a knockout victory and has since posted three unanimous decision wins, most recently besting Deise Lee Rocha this past August in Brazil’s Arena Force promotion.
