Ilima-Lei Macfaralane to Defend Flyweight Title vs. Alejandra Lara in Bellator 201 Headliner

Ilima-Lei Macfarlane will make her first flyweight title defense against Alejandra Lara in the Bellator 201 main event.

Promotion officials announced the matchup on Tuesday. Bellator 201 takes place at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif., on June 29 and will also include another 125-pound clash between Valerie Letourneau and Bruna Ellen. The main card will air on the Paramount Network at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.

Macfarlane has been victorious in her first seven professional outings, six of which have occurred under the Bellator MMA banner. She claimed the inaugural flyweight belt with a fifth-round submission of Emily Ducote at Bellator 186 on Nov. 3. Four of Macfarlane’s last five wins have come via tapout.

A native of Medellin, Colombia, Lara made her promotional debut at Bellator 190, where she submitted Lena Ovchynnikova with a rear-naked choke 4:09 into the third round. The 23-year-old owns a 7-1 career mark, with all but one of her victories coming inside the distance.
