Injury Forces Attila Vegh Out of 205-Pound Title Clash Against Christian M’Pumbu at Bellator 84

Attila Vegh has suffered an injury and will not challenge Christian M’Pumbu for the Bellator Fighting Championships light heavyweight title at Bellator 84 as originally planned.

MMAJunkie.com first reported the news on Monday, and Sherdog.com confirmed the development with Bellator officials. As a result, the Bellator 84 main card will consist of three bouts, including the Season 7 lightweight tournament final between Dave Jansen and Marcin Held and the heavyweight final between Richard Hale and Alexander Volkov.

Bellator 84 takes place at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind., on Dec. 14 and serves as the organization’s Season 7 finale. The main card airs live on MTV2, while the preliminary bouts will stream on Spike.com.

Vegh won the promotion’s Summer Series 205-pound tournament by defeating Zelg Galesic, Emanuel Newton and Travis Wiuff in a three-month span. Vegh has won his last eight fights overall and owns 21 of his 28 professional victories by knockout or submission.

M’Pumbu captured Bellator’s first-ever light heavyweight tournament with triumphs over Chris Davis, Tim Carpenter and Hale in 2011. He last appeared against Wiuff in a non-title bout at Bellator 55, falling to the well-traveled veteran via unanimous decision.
