Injury Knocks Vaughan Lee from UFC 167 Clash with Sergio Pettis

Sergio Pettis needs a new opponent for his UFC debut. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com

An injury will prevent bantamweight Vaughan Lee from competing at UFC 167, according to a source close to the fighter.

Sherdog.com learned Tuesday that Lee has suffered an injury to his upper body, though Sherdog’s source declined to reveal further specifics. The Brit was expected to welcome undefeated prospect Sergio Pettis to the Octagon at the Nov. 16 event, which takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The UFC is currently seeking a replacement opponent for Pettis.

Lee, 31, last competed in June, when he submitted to a Raphael Assuncao armbar at UFC on Fuel TV 10. The Englishman joined the Las Vegas-based promotion in 2011 and has thus far racked up an Octagon record of 2-3, dropping bouts to Chris Cariaso and T.J. Dillashaw but besting the likes of Norifumi Yamamoto and Motonobu Tezuka.

Pettis has been perfect throughout his nascent pro career, scoring first-round stoppages in each of his last two fights and earning six of his nine wins by either knockout or submission. The 20-year-old is the younger brother of reigning UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and last competed on Sept. 28, when he tapped James Porter with a kimura under the Wisconsin-based North American Fighting Championship banner.
