Rachael Ostovich vs. Evva Johnson

Round 1

Ostovich and Johnson touch gloves to open the bout. Leg kick from Ostovich, she then follows with a big right hand that lands flush. Johnson catches a body kick from Ostovich, but the Hawaiian quickly moves to take the back of Johnson but slides off. Johnson pushes the fight up against the fence, leading to both women attempting to gain dominant position. Johnson gets the best of it, looking to sink in a rear-naked choke, but Ostovich transitions right into an armbar momentarily, but rips her limb free. Ostovich opens up with shots that rock Johnson, making good solid contact. Johnson continues to walk Ostovich down, but is walking right into punches. Johnson’s pace is visibly slowing here, allowing Ostovich to get in and out quickly and score points. Johnson shoots for a takedown, but Ostovich winds up on top to end the frame. 10-9 Ostovich.

Ostovich clearly took two rounds from Johnson.
The second round of this flyweight contest opens with a push kick from Ostovich, to which Johnson responds with a takedown attempt. Ostovich doing a great job of muscling her way out of danger, gaining dominant positioning practically every time Johnson tries to grapple. Ostovich throwing a nice flurry of punches, looks to flatten her opponent out and lock in the rear-naked choke submission, then briefly attempts an armbar. The sequence ends with Ostovich standing up, kicking the legs of Johnson and not allowing the referee to stand the fight up.

Ostovich successfully takes the fight to the mat with a sweeping hip throw, but lets Johnson back upright. Johnson circles right, looking to land a big shot, but Ostovich ends the round with a beautiful single-leg takedown. 10-9 Ostovich.

Round 3

Johnson not showing much commitment with her punches, she is pawing at Ostovich, while the Hawaiian pounces with big shots at every opportunity. Johnson shoots, gets the fight up against the cage, Ostovich takes advantage by dropping elbows to the side of Johnson’s dome, ala Travis Browne against Josh Barnett. The two women trade push kicks, Johnson gets a rare takedown, sinks the hooks in and begins looking for a rear-naked choke. Johnson doing damage with these shots, maintaining her position well. Ostovich slowly looking to get up, Johnson grasping on for dear life, she is close to sliding off. Johnson peppers Ostovich with shots to end the fight. 10-9 Johnson (29-28) Ostovich.

Jinh Yu Frey vs. Cassie Robb

Frey handed Robb her third straight loss.
Robb eats a right hand to open the bout. Frey measuring Robb, trying to get a feel for her opponent’s movement. Robb throws a wrench in this tactic, bumrushing Frey and looking to close the distance. Frey latches onto the back of Robb who is holding her in the air. Frey sinks the arm underneath the chin and secures the rear-naked choke. Robb crumples to the mat, then taps. Robb remains winless to start her career.

Alexa Grasso vs. Alida Gray

Round 1

Grasso took out Gray with precision.
Gray and Grasso claim the center of the cage, Grasso swinging wildly with her kicks and punches. Grasso blocks a high kick from Gray, but doesn’t capitalize. Out of nowhere Grasso explodes with a punching combination, absolutely rocking Gray with an uppercut. The fight makes its way to the edge of the cage, Gray turns the table, hurting Grasso with shots. Grasso comes back with another uppercut, dropping Gray to the mat. Grasso follows up with unanswered punches to the head of Gray who tried to cover her head. Referee Joe Solis steps in, maybe a bit early, but Grasso remains undefeated.

Peggy Morgan vs. Andria Wawro

Round 1

Morgan and Wawro trading punches to start the bout. Wawro loading up with her right hand, Morgan throwing leg kicks. Wawro comes over the top with a punch, but Morgan clinches up landing some knees of her own. Wawro scoring, but is wild with her punches. Morgan’s face is showing a bit of wear and tear early. Morgan pressing Wawro against the steel mesh, changing levels looking for a takedown. Jab by Morgan landing with regularity, but she isn’t piecing her punches together. The round ends with Morgan landing a stiff right hand. 10-9 Wawro.

Morgan outpointed Wawro.
Wawro opens up with a nice body, head punching combination. Wawro takes her turn pushing Morgan against the cage. Morgan turns the tables, using her leverage to throw knees to the body. The two are separated by the referee, they reset in the center of the cage, Morgan returning to her left jab. Wawro lands a big punch that draws a reaction from those in attendance. Wawro throwing the overhand right often, but it’s not landing flush. The round closes with a shot from Wawro after the bell. Closely contested round. 10-9 Wawro.


Round 3

Wawro catches Morgan coming in with a shot. Morgan is demonstrating her strong chin with some of these punches she is eating. Morgan presses Wawro against the cage again, but isn’t imploring much in the way of offense. Wawro trying to break free from the predicament, but doesn’t seem to have enough in the tank to escape. Morgan suddenly begins peppering Wawro with mini punches from up close, they aren’t doing damage, but they are scoring. Wawro finally breaks free with 90-seconds left in the tilt. Wawro goes on the attack as time winds down, but the time Morgan spent in control earned her the score. 10-9 Morgan, (29-28 Wawro).

Jennifer Maia vs. DeAnna Bennett

Round 1

Bennett and Maia trading offense early, throwing at a heavy clip. Maia going over the top with a right hand, Bennett closing the distance and pressing against the cage. Maia turns the table, throwing elbows from the inside. Maia throws a front kick that lands, Bennett returns fire with a flurry of shots. Highly competitive fight thus far. Bennett throwing knees from inside the clinch, Maia groaning loudly. Just as the round comes to a close Bennett perfectly times a takedown attempt, winding up on top to close the frame. 10-9 Bennett.

Round 2

Maia goes on attack early, getting inside with punches, then landing a liverkick. Bennett has enough of the punishment, slowing the fight down along the cage. Maia throws Bennett beautifully and ends up on top. Bennett looks for a guillotine choke, but the maneuver isn’t in deep enough. They rise to their feet, but Maia catches Bennett with an illegal knee to stop the action. Maia lands a right uppercut that sends Bennett backwards into the cage. Body kick by Bennett, but she eats punches also. Bennett attacking the knee of Maia, causing the Brazilian to grimace visibly. The round comes to a close with an explosive sequence of synchronized punching on the inside. 10-9 Maia.

Bennett beat Chute Boxe's Maia.
Maia misses wildly with an overhand right that Bennett counters with a short right hand to the chin. Bennett presses against the cage, Maia turns the tables. Bennett drops down and throws a punch that lands flush. Bennett keeping Maia at distance with push kicks, but Maia managing to get inside and score with the uppercut. Maia catches Bennett with a knee as the fight comes to a close. Both women raise their hands in celebration, going to be a tough one for the judges to call. 10-9 Maia (29-28 Maia).

Roxanne Modafferi vs. Andrea Lee

Round 1

Modafferi eats a body kick, Lee bringing the heat with shots. Lee goes for a head kick but Modafferi takes her down to the mat. Modafferi trying with all her might to take the fight to the mat, she is successful, scoring a takedown with a trip. Lee is being quite active off her back, throwing elbows and writhing to stand up. Modafferi is holding on for dear life, completely content with just maintaining top position, holding “KGB” down. Scramble in the final minute of the opening round see Modafferi attempt a guillotine, Lee stands throws a knee that hurts Modafferi, but she is saved by the bell. 10-9 Lee.

Modafferi took a split decision.
Lee is connecting with most of her shots. She scores a nasty leg kick that seems to have Modafferi hurt. Lee winding up with her shots, Modafferi changing stances often to avoid eating more of those vicious leg kicks. Takedown for Modafferi, Lee uses the cage to get back to her feet. Modafferi takes the fight right back to the floor, but Lee finds herself in side control, trying to posture up in order to drop bombs. Lee drops two nasty elbows to the forehead of Modaferri, who twists and turns and ends up on top. Modafferi gets some shots in before the round closes. 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 3

Lee catches Modafferi with a left hook on the way inside. Lee attempting to set up her power shots, Modafferi throws a body kick that Lee catches. She makes Modafferi pay for the move, throwing punches. Modafferi grabs hold on Lee and looks to hold on for the remainder of the fight, smothering Lee with top pressure. Modafferi moves into full mount briefly, trying to posture up and strike with offense. Lee covering up well, making the shots glance off her arms. Modafferi transitions to the back, dropping elbows, just frantic offense, scoring tons of points. Modafferi controls the round and implored her game plan well. 10-9 Modafferi (29-28 Modafferi).

Tonya Evinger vs. Cindy Dandois

Round 1

Dandois scores a takedown within the first 30-seconds. Evinger reverses the situation almost right away. Dandois using her rubber guard to maintain control of Evinger, but Evinger passes into side control. Evinger locks Dandois in a crucifix situation, dropping shots to the head of her opponent. Evinger flattens Dandois out, going to town with punches to the sides of the head. Dandois attempts a heel hook, but Evinger circles out of the move and lands some more big punches. Strong round for Evinger in all facets. 10-9 Evinger.

Evinger again won by armbar.
Evinger goes right back at Dandois on the floor, a slick transition winds up earning her control of Dandois’ arm. Dandois rolls right into the move forcing the submission. Evinger has now won six straight fights.

Invicta Atomweight Title Fight:
Michelle Waterson vs. Herica Tiburcio

Round 1

Tiburcio and Waterson are set for their atomweight title clash. Tiburcio showing no fear early, while Waterson is a bit tentative. Tiburcio scores the first takedown of the bout, after a few moments of a stalemate, Waterson locks in an armbar. Tiburcio slams Waterson down to break the hold, but Waterson holds on. Tiburcio manages to wriggle free, they reset in the center, but not for long. Waterson sweeps Tiburcio and ends up in full mount. She has a minute to work with, but Tiburcio sweeps Waterson over with ease. Waterson looking for an armbar again, but it’s too little too late as the round ends. 10-9 Tiburcio.

Round 2

Waterson has a severely swollen left eye, but she comes out firing. After some time spent along the cage, Waterson sweeps Tiburcio and ends up on top. Shes not throwing any shots, but she is maintaining her dominant position in side mount. Tiburcio looks for a heel hook, but Waterson makes her pay with big hammerfists that force Tiburcio to relinquish the hold. Tiburcio scores a takedown and winds up in north/south position. Tiburcio focusing on the left eye of Waterson, she then suddenly transitions to a kimura lock, she has it in deep! Waterson manages to weather the storm. Tiburcio then locks in an armbar but the round comes to a close. 10-9 Waterson.

Waterson was forced to tap.
Spinning heel kick from Waterson misses, Tiburcio scores a takedown. The two ladies go right back to work looking for the submission. They stand, Tiburcio goes all in on a guillotine choke, it’s in deep. Waterson taps; Tiburcio is the new Invicta FC atomweight champion.
