A flyweight bout pitting Pearl Gonzales against Brogan Walker-Sanchez has been elevated to headlining status for Invicta Fighting Championships 37.
The all-female promotion announced the change on Monday. Jinh Yu Frey was was supposed to defend her atomweight crown in a rematch with Ashley Cummins in the original main event, but that contest has been delayed due to a Frey injury. The nature of Frey’s injury was not disclosed. Frey vs. Cummins will be rescheduled for Invicta FC 39, although a date for that card was not confirmed.
After an 0-2 UFC stint in 2017, Gonzalez kicked off her Invicta FC tenure with successive triumphs over Kali Robbins, Barbara Acioy and Daiane Firmino. The 33-year-old then challenged for 125-pound gold, falling to Vanessa Porto via technical decision at Invicta FC 34 on Feb. 15.
Guam’s Walker-Sanchez is unbeaten in six professional outings, including victories over Cheri Muraski and Miranda Maverick under the Invicta FC banner. The four-time Pacific Xtreme Combat veteran has gone the distance in all of her bouts.
Invica FC 37 takes place at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., on Oct. 4 and streams in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
