Invicta FC 41 Weigh-in Results: Main Event Competitor Janaisa Morandin Comes in Heavy

By Tristen Critchfield Jul 29, 2020

There was some trouble on the scales involving the Invicta Fighting Championships 41 main event.

Only one-half of the scheduled headliner made weight without issue, as Montserrat Ruiz checked in at 114 pounds for her strawweight clash against Janaisa Morandin. Morandin, meanwhile, tipped the scales at 116.9 pounds during Wednesday’s weigh-ins. As a result, “Evil Princess” was fined 25 percent of her purse. Transgressions on the scale are nothing new for the 25-year-old Brazilian, who weighed 119.6 pounds for her last scheduled strawweight appearance against Emily Ducote in August 2019.

Invicta FC 41 takes place on Thursday in Kansas City, Kansas and streams on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Other than Morandin, everyone else on the six-bout card hit their contracted marks.

A former strawweight title challenger, Morandin has lost three of her last four bouts. Most recently, the 25-year-old Brazilian suffered a first-round TKO defeat to Ducote at Invicta FC 36 on Aug. 9. “Evil Princess” is 10-3 as a professional, with six victories coming inside the distance.

Mexico’s Ruiz made her promotional debut at Invicta FC 33, where she suffered a unanimous decision loss to UFC veteran Danielle Taylor. The Bonebreakers Team representative began her pro tenure with eight consecutive triumphs on the regional circuit.
