Invicta FC to Make Las Vegas Debut During International Fight Week

Invicta Fighting Championships, the world’s premier all-women’s mixed martial arts promotion, is slated to finally make its Las Vegas debut during this year’s International Fight Week.

To be held inside the Chelsea in the glamorous Cosmopolitan Las Vegas on Thursday, July 9, the Invicta FC 13 card will be the perfect bridge between the first half of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s International Fight Week and the massive two-day UFC Fan Expo.

The promotion announced earlier today that three of its titles will be at stake on the bill, which will be streamed live and exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.

The main event of the event will be Brazilian powerhouse Cristiane Justino looking to keep her three-fight knockout streak alive against Faith Van Duin. Justino, Invicta’s featherweight champion, has yet to lose since she dropped her professional debut a decade ago and has been laying waste to everybody she’s faced over the years. “Cyborg” has knocked out seven straight women -- her destruction of Hiroko Yamanaka was overturned by the California Athletic Commission -- and will likely be installed as a heavy favorite as soon as the fight is added to the various Las Vegas sportsbooks.

As for New Zealand’s Duin, she last fought in April where she submitted Amanda Bell via rear-naked choke in the second round. The duel was her first for Invicta and one that got “The Immortal” back on track. Duin had lost her previous bout to Arlene Blencowe, thus far the only blemish on her pro ledger.

The co-main event of the evening will be a scrap for the vacant bantamweight belt between Tonya Evinger and Irene Aldana. Evinger, a veteran of nine years, is riding a six-fight winning streak. “Triple Threat” has submitted her last two opponents, both via armbar. Aldana has won two straight since suffering the first loss of her career; both wins came courtesy of first-round rear-naked chokes.

Herica Tiburcio, Invicta’s newly-crowned atomweight champ, will put her title and four-fight winning streak on the line against Japan’s Ayaka Hamasaki. The two were supposed to have clashed at Invicta FC 9 last year, but visa problems for the Brazilian forced a postponement.
