‘JZ’ Cavalcante Captures Titan Lightweight Title with Crushing Knockout of Pat Healy
Titan Fighting Championship on Friday visited the BankUnited Center
in Coral Gables, Florida, with a championship tripleheader, and the
main event ended in spectacular fashion.
Gesias Cavalcante met Pat Healy for the vacant lightweight title and made sure there was no controversy surrounding the conclusion of the Titan 39 headliner. It took the Brazilian a little more than two minutes to scramble Healy’s circuits, as a booming lead right hand crashed onto the grappler’s jaw and dropped him. “Bam Bam” fell to all fours and tried to clear his head, even as Cavalcante swarmed with follow-up punches. Healy was eventually knocked completely unconscious with a left to the temple.
The end came 2:07 into the first round.
In the co-main event, Andre Harrison retained his Titan featherweight crown but was far from thrilled by what transpired. After two close rounds, challenger Deivison Francisco Ribeiro had one of his powerful low kicks checked, the impact snapping his right shin. When the Brazilian stepped backward and put weight on his foot, his leg bent at a gruesome angle.
Referee Larry Folsom waved off the bout as soon as Ribeiro hit the canvas, giving Harrison a TKO win at 2:13 of the third round. Afterward, “The Bull” expressed his disappointment with how the fight ended and dismay regarding Ribeiro’s horrific injury.
Meanwhile, Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Dhiego Lima fought David Michaud for five grueling rounds and walked out of the cage with the Titan welterweight belt around his waist. All three judges scored it 48-47 for Lima.
The two men were relentless with their powerful strikes early in the bout, but once it became clear they were wading into a stalemate, they engaged in a grinding, phone booth-type of fight for the duration. Michaud, also an Octagon vet, was cut over his right eye, and though his face was a bloody, swollen mess by the end of the fifth round, he never stopped trying to take the fight to Lima. In the end, Lima landed the harder shots, controlled the pace and was awarded a unanimous decision.
In other action, Carina Damm snapped her two-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision over Sarah Alpar, taking 29-28 tallies on all three cards; Micah Miller picked up his 20th pro win by outpointing Kenny Gaudreau over three rounds, earning 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 marks from the judges; Abdiel Velazquez claimed a majority decision against 1996 Olympic bronze medalist Alexis Vila; Kurt Holobaugh stopped Luciano dos Santos with punches 4:21 into the second round; Sabah Homasi made quick work of rival Vitor Regis Eustaquio with elbows and hammerfists 2:21 into round one; Lazar Stojadinovic tapped Chino Duran with a rear-naked choke 90 seconds into the second round; Preston Parsons submitted Ignacio Bahamondes with an armbar 2:59 into round one; and Raush Manfio knocked out Luis Zequeira with a knee strike to the head 4:52 into the second round.
