Jabouin Moves to Bantamweight, Faces Loveland at UFC 134

A bantamweight clash between Yves Jabouin and Ian Loveland will likely take place at UFC 134, promotion officials announced Saturday.

“Ian Loveland and Yves Jabouin have verbally agreed to fight on Aug. 27 in Rio de Janeiro,” UFC President Dana White stated in a release. “Both are exceptionally tough competitors and this will be Jabouin’s first bout in the bantamweight division.”

Headlined by a middleweight title clash between Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami, UFC 134 goes down Aug. 27 at Rio’s HSBC Arena. The event marks the promotion’s first trip to Brazil since 1998 and is also expected to feature the return of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, as the former Pride Fighting Championships king locks horns with young buck Brendan Schaub.

After compiling a four-fight winning streak from 2007 to 2008, Jabouin (Pictured) has lost three of his last four. The Haitian-born Canadian fell by split decision to Rafael Assuncao in his WEC debut, and followed that with a “Fight of the Night” knockout defeat at the hands of Mark Hominick. Jabouin rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Brandon Visher to close out 2010, but stumbled in his UFC debut, as the 32-year-old striking specialist was submitted at UFC 129 by a flying triangle choke courtesy of Pablo Garza.

Fighting out of Team Quest, Loveland has won seven of his last eight fights. The International Fight League veteran made a successful UFC debut in December, outpointing Tyler Toner at “The Ultimate Fighter 12” Finale. His seven-fight winning streak would come to a halt in his next fight, however, as “The Barn Owl” was decisioned in his bantamweight debut by former WEC title challenger Joseph Benavidez at UFC 128 in March.
