As a consolation, Hermansson will take on Jared Cannonier, according to manager Malki Kawa. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto then clarified he was being told this will be the main event.
Hermansson is coming off a decision win over Ronaldo Souza at UFC Fort Lauderdale to extend his winning streak to four. Before “Jacare,” he beat David Branch via submission in under a minute. “The Joker” has been clamoring to fight on the UFC Copenhagen card since it was announced.
Cannonier, meanwhile, last saw action in a TKO win over Anderson Silva at UFC 237. The win pushed his winning streak to two, and improved his record at middleweight to 2-0. In his middleweight debut he knocked out Branch in the second round back at UFC 230.
UFC Copenhagen will air live on ESPN+ on Sept. 28.
