Aaron Phillips will return to the Octagon for the first time since 2014 when he locks horns with Jack Shore at UFC “Fight Island” on July 15.
Phillips is a short-notice replacement for Anderson dos Santos, who tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the event. MMAjunkie.com was first to report the change to the bantamweight bout. The UFC Fight Night event takes place at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and is headlined by a featherweight tilt between Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige.
Additionally, Andreas Michailidis will fill in for Vinicius Moreira and face Modestas Bukauskas at the July 15 event. Moreira also had to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19. Sportas.Lt was first to report the new light heavyweight pairing. Phillips returns to the Las Vegas-based promotion on a five-bout winning streak. The 30-year-old Gladiators Academy representative dropped decisions to Sam Sicilia and Matt Hobar during a brief UFC stint approximately six years ago.
A former Cage Warriors champion, Shore improved his career mark to 12-0 with a third-round submission of Nohelin Hernandez in his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 160 this past September.
A native of Athens, Greece, Michailidis has won seven of his last eight professional appearances while competing in organizations such as Titan FC and Fight Nights Global. The 31-year-old owns a 12-3 career record and has finished all but one of his victories inside the distance.
Bukauskas is a former Cage Warriors light heavyweight champion. The 26-year-old Lithuanian enters his UFC debut on a six-bout finishing streak.
