Bellator MMA has scheduled a trip to London this year, and will be bringing with it a fight months in the making.
On Thursday morning, promotion officials announced that an event will take place in the United Kingdom’s capital in May. The main event will feature a bantamweight clash between James Gallagher and Callum Ellenor. This will be the third time the promotion has scheduled this fight. The two were slated to face each other at Bellator 227 in September, but Ellenor pulled out of that fight due to medical issues. Then, they were scheduled to meet at the upcoming Bellator Dublin card, but a back injury forced Gallagher’s withdrawal.
The 23-years old Gallagher (10-1) is riding a three-bout winning streak. In his latest appearance in the Bellator cage, he submitted Roman Salazar after just 35 seconds in the opening stanza. Salazar served as a short-notice replacement for Ellenor.
Ellenor (8-2) will try to maintain his positive momentum that started after he tapped Nathan Greyson with a rear-naked choke in the first stanza of their Bellator Newcastle encounter.
The upcoming Bellator London card will also feature the debut of James Haskell in the heavyweight division. The former England international rugby player’s opponent has yet to be announced.
Bellator London will go down at the SSE Arena in London on May 16.
