Jay Hieron Faces Mike Bronzoulis at Legacy Fighting Championship 12 in Houston

Jay Hieron will make his Legacy Fighting Championship debut on July 13 against Mike Bronzoulis, LFC promoter Mick Maynard announced Tuesday.

The welterweight contest is set for LFC 12, which takes place at Arena Theater in Houston and airs live on HDNet. The event is also expected to feature the Legacy debut of grappling ace Robert Drysdale, who will square off with Isaac Villanueva.

Hieron had a 10-fight winning streak snapped when he failed to capture Bellator’s welterweight title last year. After besting Anthony Lapsley, Brent Weedman and Rick Hawn to earn his shot at the Chicago-based promotion’s 170-pound strap, “The Thoroughbred” was outpointed by reigning champion Ben Askren at Bellator 56 in October. The former IFL champion holds over half of his career victories by either knockout or submission and has never been submitted in nearly nine years as a professional.

Bronzoulis, 33, enters the cage two years younger than his foe. “The Greek” has lost three of his last four outings, most recently losing just four days ago against Gerald Harris at LFC 11. The former LFC welterweight titleholder fought twice under the Strikeforce banner in 2011, dropping a unanimous decision to Todd Moore before earning a technical knockout over Chad Leonhardt.
