Jermall Charlo turned in a workmanlike performance against Brandon Adams to retain his WBC middleweight title on Saturday night, winning a lopsided unanimous decision.

Charlo (28-0, 12 KO) made his hometown fans in Houston proud as he wiped out Adams for 12 rounds inside NRG Arena. The Showtime-televised bout was expected by many to be more or less of showcase-type of event for Charlo in an attempt to lure one of the more massive fellow 160-pounders into the ring, but Adams was tougher than expected.

Adams (21-3, 13 KO) couldn't get things going offensively inside the ring, but "The Contender" winner never stopped trying to change his fortunes. Charlo boxed nicely and battered his foe in spots, but he apparently injured his left hand early in the contest, thus preventing him from possibly scoring the knockout.

In the end, one judge had it 119-109 for Charlo, while the other two officials saw it 120-108.
