Jessica-Rose Clark Claims Stoliarenko Continued to Hold Armbar After Tap at UFC 276

Jessica-Rose Clark will likely need to go under the knife following a first-round armbar defeat to Julija Stoliarenko at UFC 276.

The Syndicate MMA representative was taken down by her opponent and submitted just 42 seconds into the opening round of their bantamweight clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this past Saturday. In a video posted on Instagram, “Jessy Jess” discussed the injury and also questioned whether Stoliarenko may have held the maneuver longer than necessary.

“Well, that sucked. I just got back from the hospital. I am probably going to need surgery on my elbow,” Clark said. “She did a really good job of continuing to armbar me after I tapped, but that’s fine. It is what it is. I felt great. I cried the entire time I was at the hospital, but I’m feeling all right. I’m understandably heartbroken, but I did everything right this camp. I’m going to have this surgery and heal up and then come back and be better – and that’s all I can do.”

Clark has lost back-to-back UFC bouts via first-round armbar and falls to 4-4 during her tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion overall.

Stoliarenko, meanwhile, was unapologetic in victory. Nine of her 10 professional triumphs have come by way of armbar. The Lithuanian fighter earned her first UFC victory in four appearances on Saturday night.

“If I get a submission, I’m going to snap it until people stop it,” Stoliarenko told media during a post-fight scrum. “Of course I don’t want to injure my opponents, but it’s up to them when to tap. If she’s not tapping, I’m going to do my work.”
