Joanna Jedrzejczyk Gives Weight Cut Update Ahead of UFC 223 Title Rematch vs. Namajunas

It looks like Joanna Jedrzejczyk is well on track to making weight for her strawweight title rematch against Rose Namajunas at UFC 223.

The former champion announced via Instagram on Wednesday that she currently weighs 122.5 pounds – less than eight pounds away from her contracted mark of 115 pounds. “If you want something done right…You have to do it yourself,” she wrote.

Jedrzejczyk fell to Namajunas via first-round technical knockout at UFC 217 in one of 2017’s biggest upsets. The Polish star later attributed her performance to cutting 15 pounds in 14 hours ahead of the November title bout.

As a result, Jedrzejczyk parted ways with her nutrition team, Perfecting Athletes. “It was an accident what happened,” Jedrzejczyk said then. “I know that I should have won the match, and I know that I could have won the match. ... The people that I was working with led me to a critical state.

“I told my doctor I need to do whatever to weigh 115. I don't care if I have to be in a tub with whatever temperature. It gets harder and harder as you get older to cut weight.”

Prior to facing Namajunas, Jedrzejczyk began her professional career with 14 straight victories. She captured strawweight gold with a second-round knockout of Carla Esparza at UFC 185 and defended the belt with dominant triumphs over Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Jessica Andrade.

UFC 223 takes place on April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., and is headlined by a lightweight title clash between interim champion Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view.
