Joe Duffy Discusses Contract Negotiations with the UFC, Injured Shoulder Rehab

Joe Duffy made a recent appearance on MMA Junkie Radio to discuss his contract negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship as well as his recovery from a torn labrum.

At the time of signing his initial contract with the UFC in 2015, Duffy was known by fight fans as one of only two men that had beaten Irish superstar Conor McGregor. This fight happened back in 2010 at Cage Warriors 39, with Duffy coming out on top via an arm-triangle submission.

Duffy is coming off a knockout loss to lightweight contender James Vick in November. The defeat was only the second time the Irishman had been finished in his professional mixed martial arts career. Despite the setback, the UFC were still interested in signing him, although Duffy took his time when it came to the negotiations.

“I just didn’t want to rush anything. But it was pretty good. I was glad to re-sign with the UFC. Obviously with the USADA stuff, and all that, that was a big bonus for me. That was something I kind of felt passionate about. And, in the long run, I think it’s going to make a big difference.”

Duffy is recovering from a torn labrum and has been visiting the UFC Performance Institute to assist with the recovery process.

“I couldn’t move that much -- I didn’t have much range of motion,” Duffy said. “I could lift and support it, but since I’ve been here, it’s incredible, the difference. Rehabbing in the institute has made all the difference. I’m moving it around. Sometimes I even forget I’ve got the injury.

“It’s priceless, the treatment I’m getting there, it really is. I would advise it to any of the athletes who get any surgeries or any injuries. Get up to the institute and get it looked at, because the guys are top notch.”
