Jon Jones: Dominick Reyes ‘Completely Stopped Fighting in the Championship Rounds’

Dominick Reyes has been making the media rounds since his narrow loss to Jon Jones in the UFC 247 headliner, and naturally the judges have been a primary topic of conversation.

Jones defeated Reyes via unanimous decision at the Toyota Center in Houston this past Saturday, but many observers disagreed with the cageside judges and thought “The Devastator” deserved the first three rounds in the light heavyweight title bout. Of course, Reyes was among those who took issue with the scorecards.

"Yeah, the judges suck," Reyes told ESPN. "But fans know who won. I'm considering myself the people's champ right now. ... The fans speak to make fights happen. You talk about politics and stuff like that, but what it really comes down to is what the fans want. Fans buy the fights.”

Jones has apparently been listening to Reyes’ remarks in the media, and he recently took the opportunity, as he so often does, to fire back via Twitter.

“Dominic out struck me by literally 12 shots. I scored the takedowns, was the aggressor, control the octagon every round, had more significant strikes landed.. Dom completely stopped fighting in the championship rounds and has the audacity to be mad at the judges,” Jones wrote.

“Don’t be mad at the judges, be mad at Dom’s conditioning guy. Man started to give up when the water got deep and is now going around doing interviews talking about being robbed. When will these young boys start taking responsibility? “That’s what’s wrong with boys these days.”

UFC 247 marked Jones 14th successful title defense, a promotion record. It was also one of his most difficult fights to date, an experience which he can now look back upon with satisfaction.

“At the end of the day, I got to be a part of another classic,” Jones wrote. “I’m over here in [Albuquerque] smiling from ear to ear. Having fights like that tickles my pickle, it makes me feel so alive. Makes me feel like a man. Especially when you display having balls the way I did, nothing but a win.”
