Jon Jones Wants Super Fight, Feels He Has ‘Nothing to Gain’ Facing Dominick Reyes

Jon Jones seems to be growing restless reigning over the light heavyweight division. What that means for his future remains to be seen.

At the moment, Dominick Reyes would appear to be the leading contender to face Jones next after vanquishing Chris Weidman for his sixth-consecutive 205-pound triumph at UFC on ESPN 6 last week. However, Jones doesn’t appear to be intrigued by the possibility of facing “The Devastator.”

“Really not sure when I’ll be fighting next, feel like I have nothing to gain by beating [Dominick],” Jones wrote on Twitter. “I’ve actually felt that way about my last two opponents. I want a super fight.”

Jones is coming off a back-to-back decision triumphs over Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith — both converted middleweights — in his last two title defenses. Before that, “Bones” scored a dominant win over Alexander Gustafsson in a rematch at UFC 232. Jones had something to prove against Gustafsson, as their first meeting is regarded as the most difficult test of the Jackson-Wink MMA product’s career.

“Had a chip on my shoulder against Gus,” Jones wrote. “Fighting Smith Santos Dominic??? I’m having a hard time even talking s—t to this last dude. They all say the same lame s—t. I want a fight to be excited about.”

That could involve a move to heavyweight. When one Twitter user mentioned a showdown with knockout artist Francis Ngannou, Jones replied, “I feel like that fight is inevitable.”

Jones also pondered taking a hiatus from the sport.

“Sometimes I think about sitting out and just training for the next two years, then coming back and challenge in the light heavyweight who’s been the most dominant.. wouldn’t that be wild?” he wrote.
