Jorge Masvidal After Record-Setting KO: ‘If You Want F---ing Violence, You Know Who to Call’

For a man who just set the record for the fastest knockout in the history of the UFC, Jorge Masvidal seemed a little disappointed.

Masvidal electrified the entire MMA community at UFC 239 by calmly walking out his corner with his hands behind his back before running at nemesis Ben Askren. From there, “Gamebred” launched his right knee dead on the side of Askren’s face, knocking him stiff. Before referee Jason Herzog could intervene, Masvidal was already smashing a pair of jackhammer-like punches square on Askren’s mug.

All this happened in just five seconds, but Masvidal wasn’t fully satisfied with it.

“I really wanted to beat him up for 14 minutes and 30 seconds before ending him, but it didn’t happen,” the always serious Masvidal said after his sensational conquest. “Now it’s back to business. I have nothing nice to say about him. He was talking wild and I had to show him there are consequences. You’re welcome for ending that dude.”

Masvidal (34-13) wasted no time in telling the world that he should be next up for the welterweight title. Though he has won back-to-back bouts in highlight-reel fashion, the Miami resident is just 2-2 in his last four bouts. However, the UFC is a company of “what have you done lately,” and considering the spectacular nature of his last two wins, it seems like a no-brainer to put “Gamebred” in the No. 1 contender’s spot. Fan sentiment seems to be leaning that way, as well.

“I’m coming for that belt,” he exclaimed. “You know who deserves that belt. I deserve that next title shot. After this performance, I don’t want to say anything. I’ll let the fans do the talking. They pay guys to fight. If you want to see a fighter, and not someone on social media talking about fighting, that’s me. He [Askren] talks on Twitter and then put his crotch on people’s face without throwing punches.”

At the post-fight press conference, Masvidal didn’t mince his words. He feels as though he is more deserving than anybody at 170 pounds to land a crack at Kamaru Usman’s belt, but he’s also not going to go against his own ethics in order to get it.

“It [title shot] should have been mine,” he said. “I don’t know. I’m not going to sell my soul, man. I know they [UFC] go around sometimes telling, ‘Oh, you’ve got the title shot,’ then see who gives the best deal. I want to get paid for my services. I think I bring a real thing to this fighting thing, and that’s just baptizing people. I’m not God, but I’m putting mother---ers on another planet when I’m done with them.

“I don’t know [who] of them [within the UFC] does it, but I think my body of work speaks for itself,” he continued. “If you want sheer violence, you know who to call. If you want other s--t, guys going to press conferences on time and posting on their [social media], then you know who to call.”

Masvidal then reiterated his point once more for emphasis: “But if you want someone who’s going to give this f---ing violence, you know who to call.”
