Junior dos Santos Wants To Fight Francis Ngannou 'Maybe At The End Of August'

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is on his way back towards a shot at the title after finishing the heavy-hitting Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night 146 in Wichita, Kansas last Saturday night.

“Cigano” came into the fight as the favorite over his higher-ranked opponent and used his superior boxing skills to pick apart Lewis on the feet before landing a heavy body shot to “The Black Beast,” setting him up for the finish. The 35-year-old is currently riding a three-fight winning streak with wins over Blagoy Ivanov, Tai Tuivasa and Lewis and is now targeting a showdown with arguably the scariest man in the division in Francis Ngannou later in the year (via MMANews.com):

“I think that would be great,” dos Santos said of fighting Francis Ngannou next. “It should [have happened] in the past [but] because of something weird it didn’t happen, but maybe now it can happen.

“My daughter [will be] born in May so I have to get everything ready to receive her. After I make sure everything is fine and she’s good with her mother and our family then I’ll fight again, maybe at the end of August.”

Ngannou was an interested onlooker at the heavyweight event that took place in Wichita over the weekend taking to Twitter to show his interest in fighting the Brazilian:

Ngannou is in red-hot form after finishing Curtis Blaydes and Cain Velasquez in his last two fights. With the current champion Daniel Cormier currently undergoing negotiations with former champion Brock Lesnar, a fight against dos Santos would confirm who is the No. 1 contender in the division.
