Kairat Akhmetov-Geje Eustaquio Tops One Championship ‘Total Victory’ on Sept. 16 in Jakarta

One Championship's return to Indonesia now has a main event.

Former promotional flyweight champion Kairat Akhmetov will headline One's “Total Victory” card, squaring off with the Philippines' Geje Eustaquio in a 135-pound main event. The event is scheduled for Sept. 16 at the Jakarta Convention Center in the Indonesian capital.

The 29-year-old Akhmetov won the One flyweight title, then contested at 125 pounds, in November 2015 by defeating Brazilian Adrian Moraes via split decision. “The Kazakh” was then forced to the sidelines for 20 months after re-aggravating a back injury. Akhmetov returned to action, contesting One's 135-pound title against Moraes in a rematch on Aug. 5, where the Brazilian handed him his first loss in 24 pro bouts.

Eustaquio, 28, has won three of his last four inside the One cage. After wins over Saiful Merican and Gianna Subba in 2016, “Gravity” was brought back to Earth by Toni Tauru last December, suffering a first-round submission defeat at the hands of his Finnish foe. The Lakay MMA product got back on track at One's “Dynasty of Heroes” this past May, earning a split decision over Thailand's Anatpong Bunrad.

“Total Victory” will be the eighth One card to emanate from Indonesia. All of the promotion's previous events in Indonesia have taken place in Jakarta; One had scheduled its “Conquest of Kings” bill for July 29 in Surabaya, Indonesia, but the company announced a week prior to the slated event that that the card had been “postponed until further notice” citing “logistical issues.”
