Karo Parisyan is injured and has withdrawn from his welterweight bout against Cristiano Souza at Bellator 106. As a result, the promotion announced Monday that Alejandro Garcia will step in on short notice to face Souza on Saturday.

Bellator 106 takes place at Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif., and is headlined by a lightweight title showdown between Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez. The card was scheduled to be the promotion’s first pay-per-view offering until a neck injury forced Tito Ortiz to withdraw from his headlining bout against Quinton Jackson. Instead, the main card will air for free on Spike TV. According to Bellator’s website, Garcia-Souza will be the first of six televised bouts.

Parisyan made his Bellator debut in April, falling to Olympic judoka Rick Hawn via second-round knockout. The 31-year-old Californian has experienced mixed results since his final UFC bout in 2010, posting a 3-4 record outside the Octagon.

A natural featherweight, Garcia enters the bout having won eight of his last 10 fights. Most recently, he notched a first-round KO of Roberto Vargas at KOTC “Restitution” in February. A member of the “Fight Master” cast, Souza is unbeaten in six professional outings, including two under the Bellator banner.
