Two hard weight cuts in the span of a few months got the better of Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight Karol Rosa.

Rosa (13-3) last stepped in the cage on short notice in July, where she captured a unanimous decision over Vanessa Melo. The victory extended Rosa’s win streak to four, which is her longest since she began her career at 5-0. Rosa was initially linked to four separate bouts with Julia Avila in late 2019 and throughout much of 2020, which saw two iterations scrubbed due to the coronavirus and two others fizzled when Rosa withdrew.
Eubanks (5-4) was looking to keep her momentum following a decision triumph over Sarah Moras in May. The win snapped a two-fight skid against Aspen Ladd and Bethe Correia, and all three bouts took place in the bantamweight division. Following her appearance on Season 26 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Eubanks remained at 125 pounds and nearly fought for the belt before her own hospitalization due to her weight cut ejected her from the championship bout. Two subsequent trips out at flyweight where “Sarj” publicly struggled with the 125-pound limit while missing the mark on one occasion prompted a return to 135 pounds in 2019.
Since the story of the withdrawal came out, former UFC fighter and ex-Strikeforce champ Sarah Kaufman (21-5, 1 NC) lobbied to step in. Eubanks quickly responded positively to the potential match. Kaufman, a Professional Fighters League women's lightweight playoff participant, last competed at 155 pounds in 2019. Unfortunately for Kaufman, the bout has been rescheduled instead of adding the Canadian as a replacement.
UFC Fight Night 177 goes down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Sept. 5, where it will be headlined by a heavyweight clash between Alistair Overeem and Augusto Sakai. Serving in the co-main event is a recently rescheduled light heavyweight affair between Ovince St. Preux and Alonzo Menifield.
