LFA 95 Weigh-in Results: Pereira vs. Powell Becomes Headliner After Cancellations

The Legacy Fighting Alliance will still make it to fight day after multiple fights fell off the card.

LFA 95 is now going to be headlined by Alexsandro Pereira (185.8) vs. Thomas Powell (182) at middleweight after several major shakeups to the event. The original marquee matchup featured a title fight between Nick Browne and Arthur Estrazulas, but it and two other bouts have been scuttled from the event lineup due to COVID-19 protocols.

Glory kickboxing middleweight and interim light heavyweight champ Pereira may be a relative MMA neophyte, but he sports an impressive kickboxing resume that has seem him score 30 knockouts across his 41 wins. Even though other triumphs awarded “Poatan” multiple titles, perhaps his most noteworthy came when he leveled current Ultimate Fighting Championship champ Israel Adesanya at a Glory of Heroes event in 2017. Pereira’s opponent Powell may not have similar kickboxing accolades to his credit, but the Philadelphia native has spent the majority of his career in the Ring of Combat organization. “Diamond” has amassed a career knockout rate of 75 percent at just 25 years of age.

The coronavirus not only removed the title fight from LFA 95, but also the featherweight contest between Michael Stack and Jordan Mapa. The preliminary amateur bout scheduled between Kevin Kissane and Isaiah Diggs was similarly cancelled.

In addition to COVID-19 wreaking havoc on the card, three fighters missed weight and one was so heavy that it forced a bout cancellation. Dylan Potter (212.2)* eclipsed the light heavyweight limit by 6.2 pounds against Myron Dennis, while Guilherme Santos (148.4)** skipped past the featherweight cap by 2.4 pounds. Both men have been fined a percentage of their respective purses and the bouts will continue as scheduled. One other was not so lucky: Flore Hani (120), who came in four pounds above the strawweight maximum, and her match with Tabatha Ricci (115.4) was pulled from the event altogether.

LFA 95’s five-fight event will air live on UFC Fight Pass starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
