Another big matchup in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s stacked lightweight division is in the works for the end of February.
The news first coming by way of MMA Junkie on Thursday, a lightweight scrap between Alexander Hernandez (12-3) and Thiago Moises (14-4) has been set for the UFC Fight Night card on Feb. 27. The two 155ers will square off at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, in a bout both fighters wanted as they called each other out in the past. Moises has since confirmed the pairing on his Instagram.
The Texas native has alternated wins and losses in his last five bouts, most recently drubbing Chris Gruetzemacher in 106 seconds in October. Second-round knockout losses to Donald Cerrone and Drew Dober were interspersed between decision victories over Francisco Trinaldo and Olivier Aubin-Mercier. “The Great” made his mark inside the promotion by flattening Beniel Dariush in 42 seconds in his 2018 debut.
Thiago Moises recently ended his own five-fight alternating stretch by going on his first UFC win streak. The Dana White's Contender Series Brazil signee made his own UFC debut against Dariush as well, but Dariush won a decision over him. A comeback submission over Michael Johnson in May 2020, and a subsequent decision over the resurgent Bobby Green in October combine for the Brazilian’s consecutive victories.
The currently unnumbered UFC Fight Night event on Feb. 27 will take place in the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Sitting atop the card is a major light heavyweight scrap between Dominick Reyes and Jiro Prochazka. Other major bouts on the card include Nikita Krylov vs. Magomed Ankalaev also at light heavyweight, and a bantamweight battle between Raphael Assuncao and Raoni Barcelos.
