Lightweights Yves Edwards, Spencer Fisher Set for UFC on Fox 8 Clash

Yves Edwards and Spencer Fisher will collide in a battle of lightweight veterans at UFC on Fox 8, promotion officials announced Tuesday.

The July 27 event takes place at Seattle’s Key Arena and will also see Jake Ellenberger face Rory MacDonald in a pivotal welterweight showdown. The evening’s main card airs live on Fox’s flagship network, while FX and Facebook will broadcast the preliminary card.

Edwards, 36, has lost three of his last five fights, notably suffering a one-punch knockout at the hands of Sam Stout in June 2011. The self-described “Thugjitsu Master” rebounded from that defeat to stop Rafaello Oliveira before falling on points to “Ultimate Fighter 13” winner Tony Ferguson. Edwards competed just once last year, finishing the hard-hitting Jeremy Stephens with a flurry of punches and elbows this past December at UFC on Fox 5. The veteran last competed on Feb. 2, when he dropped a split decision to Strikeforce import Isaac Vallie-Flagg at UFC 156.

Also 36, Fisher has lost three straight fights and five of his last six bouts heading into his showdown with Edwards. That stretch began in 2009, when “The King” was defeated by Joe Stevenson and followed that performance with a defeat at the hands of Dennis Siver. Though the southpaw responded with a win over Curt Warburton, he would then suffer setbacks against Ross Pearson and Thiago Tavares. Most recently, Fisher was outpointed by Stout in their UFC on FX 4 rubber match, dropping a unanimous verdict to the Canadian on June 22.
