Mark Hunt Says the UFC and I Have ‘Issues,’ Hopes to Have Last Fight on Contract in Adelaide

It’s been no secret that Mark Hunt’s days in the UFC are numbered, and “The Super Samoan” reiterated that point following his loss to Alexey Oleynik on Saturday in Moscow.

“I love working for the UFC, but we have issues,” Hunt told reporters following UFC Fight Night 136 (video courtesy MMAjunkie.com). “I’ve got one more fight left, and I’m trying to get on the Adelaide card with Tai [Tuivasa] and the boys. One last hurrah for the old guy.”

Hunt is referring to the UFC Fight Night card that takes place at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia on Dec. 1. The 44-year-old has only one fight left on his current promotional deal and has been at odds with the UFC in recent years.

Most notably, he is still pursuing a lawsuit against the company stemming from his fight with Brock Lesnar at UFC 200. Lesnar failed two drug tests in relation to the event, and his decision win over Hunt was overturned to a no contest. Still, Lesnar is expected to return for the first time since that bout early next year and challenge Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight belt.

Hunt rocked Oleynik with an exchange early, but he was unable to capitalize. Eventually, the Russian heavyweight took Hunt down and tapped him out with a rear-naked choke at the 4:26 mark of round one. The Pride Fighting Championships veteran has just one win in his last five Octagon appearances. However, he owns notable triumphs over the likes of Derrick Lewis, Frank Mir, Antonio Silva, Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve, Cheick Kongo and Ben Rothwell during his promotional tenure.

“I trained a lot of stuff for the ground, of course, but I got caught with a sub,” Hunt said. “That’s the way it works in this business.”
